A longtime garden favourite. A cheerful blend of soft lavender, dark purples, hot pink, creams and whites. Sweet peas are famous for their evocative scent. They are tall pea like vines requiring support and good soil. Picking the flowers every few days encourages prolonged flowering.

Growing instructions :

The trick to getting great sweet peas is to start them early. They love to grow and bloom during the cooler late spring/early summer weather. Once the temperatures get too hot the flower quality goes down and they set seed.

Sow seeds indoors in late March/early April in deep 4" pots, sowing 3-5 seeds/pot. Water and keep moist until they germinate ( 5-10 days). Pinch the tops back to two leaves to promote side shoots, which in turn gives you more flowers. Plant out a few weeks before last frost. Sweet peas prefer cooler weather, and can handle some frost. Here in the Maritimes, I plant mine out under row cover around the second week of April.
