Welcome!
Tumbleweed Botanicals is a floral design studio and flower farm dedicated to bringing you beautiful and sustainable flowers from Cape Breton Island

Botanical Creations inspired by the Beauty and Wildness of Cape Breton Island
Creating wild, romantic and nature inspired designs that include garden favorites and beautiful Cape Breton wildflowers and botanicals.

Brought to you from the heart of the Margarees
The gardens are located quiet Gillisdale, NS. Situated halfway up the mountain, surrounded by rivers and brooks and hemmed in by mature forests, the old farm provides the backdrop for the gardens and studio

Star crossed pairings
Long hours are spent in the gardens, roadsides and riversides looking for the beauty that most people pass by without a second glance. Beautiful and unlikely pairing of the wild and the tame elevate both to something more.

Nature first
Creating diversity in the gardens and mimicking the rhythms of nature ensure that we tread gently on the land. Much of the cleared portion of the farm is dedicated to a large, minimally managed wildflower/nature meadow so as to allow as many habitats and food sources to remain nearby for the benefit of the wildlife. The remaining half acre cutting gardens are managed organically and with sustainability in mind.

Year round Sustainable Options
Here at Tumbleweed Botanicals, we offer fresh flowers throughout the growing season, all the while filling the drying studio to the rafters with everlasting flowers to see us through the cold Cape Breton winter. This allows us to work in any season with nature's bounty, providing local and sustainable options to our community year round.

I'm Jessica King, floral artist, gardener and creator of Tumbleweed Botanicals
With a deep love of the natural world and a long background in horticulture, I started Tumbleweed Botanicals after a move from Vancouver Island, BC to Cape Breton, NS in 2021.
I fell in love with Cape Breton Island's rugged landscapes, deep cultural roots and generous and kind people. It's a quiet place that feels far away from the modern world. An easy place for dreamers and poets and artists.
In the studio, I work in both fresh and dried flowers, loving the challenges and joys that both styles bring, and allowing me to offer a local and sustainable option year round.
In the garden, you'll always find me experimenting with new colours or varieties. I am an avid seed saver and love propagating my own plants.
The gardens are my idea of heaven and I share this little paradise with my partner Stephane, our two farmdog mascotts, Ban and Yuki, too many cats, and an unruly flock of ducks and hens.
